Imagine having an enterprise-grade AppStore at work — one that ensures you can easily search, request, and gain access to any app you need, precisely when you need it. No more long waiting times with outstanding IT requests. Lumos is solving the app and access management challenges for organizations of all sizes through a unified platform. Our fast-growing startup is pioneering the way to untangle the complex web of app and access management by building the critical infrastructure that defines relationships between app, identities and data.

Why Lumos?
  • Jump on a Rocketship: Since launching out of stealth mode just over 2 years ago, our team has grown from 20 to ~100 people and our customer base has 10x’ed with companies like GitHub, MongoDB and Major League Baseball!
  • Build with Renowned Investor Backing: Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) backed us since the beginning and we've raised over $65m from Scale, Neo, Greg Brockman (President at OpenAI), Phil Venables (CISO at Google), and others.
  • Thrive in a Unique Culture: You’ll join an early-stage company where you have actual influence on the trajectory of the company. We deeply care about our people and the philosophy we live by - check out our values here.

Lumos is making it a joy for companies to manage their apps and identities ✨. By integrating usage, spend, compliance, and access data, we provide a level of clarity and insight previously unimaginable. To deliver a best-in-class product, Lumos depends on state-of-the-art data pipelines that power our analytics and AI-driven solutions.

We’re looking for a Staff or Principal Software Engineer to lead the design architecture of our Entitlements and Access Management Integrations Platform. This is a foundational role—one that directly shapes how enterprises manage who gets access to what, and why, across their software ecosystem. You'll architect the systems that power automated provisioning, fine-grained entitlements, and identity-aware integrations that customers trust to enforce the right access in the right context.

As part of a small and high-impact team, you’ll operate with autonomy, lean into ambiguity, and solve for scale. You’ll partner with product and engineering leadership to design platform capabilities that not only meet compliance and security requirements, but also delight developers and customers with their clarity and reliability.

We’re a startup that believes in owning the outcome, staying curious, and building with trust—both in the software we ship and the people we work with.

✨ Your Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement software solutions that integrate with our data platform, including data warehousing, data lakes, stream processing, and data pipelines. ⭐
  • Contribute to the technical vision for a world-class data infrastructure that empowers engineering, product, and AI teams, enabling seamless access to high-quality data. 🚀
  • Own and execute on the strategy for scaling our OLTP layer (MySQL). 🌱
  • Promote and implement software engineering best practices for building scalable, reliable, and secure data-centric applications. Elevate the principles of software engineering within the data domain. 🙌
🙌 What We Value

While specific qualifications are less important than your drive and potential, the following experiences will set you up for success in this role:

  • Proven experience in software engineering, with a track record of delivering complex software projects.
  • Proven experience in scaling data heavy applications and administering a production database cluster.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and database concepts.
  • Experience in designing and implementing software solutions that interact with data systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with modern data stack technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Delta Lake, Dagster, Airflow, cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure).
💰 Pay Range
  • $190,000 - $245,000 Note that this range is a good faith estimate of likely pay for this role; upon hire, the pay may differ due to skill and/or level of experience.

💸 Benefits and Perks:
  • 💯 Remote work culture (+/-4 hours Pacific Time)
  • ⛑ Medical, Vision, & Dental coverage covered by Lumos
  • 🛩 Company and team bonding trips throughout the year fully covered by Lumos
  • 💻 Optimal WFH setup to set you up for success
  • 🌴 Unlimited PTO, with minimum time off to make sure you are rested and able to be at your best

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
